Doctors at Aster Ramesh Hospitals, Guntur, successfully performed a rare coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) on a 64-year-old high-risk patient, marking a major medical achievement.
A patient with diabetes, hypertension, and triple vessel disease had previously undergone surgery for lung cancer, leaving him with severely impaired lung function. Due to the high risk associated with general anesthesia, the surgical team led by senior cardiac surgeon Dr. Jayaram Pai and senior cardiac anesthesiologist DM Dr. Loganathan decided to perform while awake.
The operation was completed without ventilator support, which reduced postoperative complications. CEO Dr. Pothineni Ramesh Babu said the achievement demonstrates the potential of advanced cardiac care for patients with poor lung function, setting a new benchmark in high-risk surgery.
