District Collector M. Abhishikth Kishore met stakeholders at the Collectorate on Wednesday (May 20, 2026) to discuss the preparation of a Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) for the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region in connection with the proposed Metro Rail project.
Representatives of the consulting firm SYSTRA, which deals with projects on the metro rail, presented the components of the plan, including underpasses, pedestrian paths, cycle paths, traffic surveys and gradual implementation in view of the projected population growth in the region until 2055.
Representatives said that the CMP is being prepared as per the guidelines of the central and state governments and that the preliminary surveys have been completed by May 2025. They added that consultations with the stakeholders are underway under the chairmanship of the district collector.
Addressing the officials, Mr. Kishore said that departments and agencies, including Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA), police, railways and national highways, should submit their suggestions, objections and recommendations in writing.
He said the CMP will play a key role in the long-term development of the Visakhapatnam region and help ensure more effective urban planning for future generations. Officials of GVMC, VMRDA, Police, Transport and Roads and Buildings Unions attended the meeting.
