586 arrested in drug cases in Kozhikode in one month

District Superintendent of Police (Kozhikode City) AP Shoukath Ali said the police have registered 573 cases and arrested 586 persons in connection with drug-related offenses across the district since June 1 under Operation Toofan.

In that period, the police seized 6 kg of suspected cannabis and 317 g of suspected MDMA. Four cases involved the possession of a commercial quantity of narcotics, and 53 cases were registered for the possession of a small quantity. Another 505 cases were registered under Section 27 of the Act on Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS).

“The abandoned Mananchira Comtrust handloom factory has become a hub for anti-social elements. The police have initiated necessary measures to prevent illegal activities and strengthen surveillance in the area,” Mr Ali said.

Reckless driving

After the successful implementation of the Toofan drive, the police will now launch a crackdown on buses involved in speeding in the city. Noting that several complaints of reckless driving had been received, Mr Ali appealed to the public to cooperate with the police in tackling the issue.
