Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday (April 3, 2026) launched a scathing attack against former CPI(M) leader and UDF-backed independent candidate TK Govindan, accusing him of opportunism and treachery ahead of the Taliparamba assembly polls.
Addressing a public meeting, Mr. Vijayan claimed that Mr. Govindan had shifted his political stance purely beyond his ambitions, calling his move an act that went beyond mere breach of trust.
“Positions must be based on clarity of ideology. Can differences with the LDF emerge overnight? If there were ideological differences, they should have been expressed long ago,” he said.
The Chief Minister further asked whether Mr. Govindan had ever expressed disapproval of LDF policies in the past and alleged that his current stand reflected opportunism led by being denied a party ticket. He also criticized the United Democratic Front for adopting such a stance.
Mr. Vijayan threw his weight behind LDF candidate PK Shyamala, describing her as an experienced leader with years of public service at various levels.
He expressed confidence that he would secure a decisive victory. Urging voters to support the proud legacy of Taliparamba, the Chief Minister urged voters to ensure a decisive mandate for Ms. Shyamala in the upcoming polls.
