Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has challenged young Mumbai batsman Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who currently represents Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League, to learn the art of finishing chases from the ‘master of the chase’ Virat Kohli.
on Thursday KKR were set a daunting target of 227 when Raghuvanshi came into bat after Finn Allen was dismissed in the over.
The 21-year-old had a prime opportunity to lead his side to their first win of the new IPL season and so he started. The right-hander played an impressive knock and scored his second consecutive fifty off just 27 balls to anchor the chase. However, his innings was cut short when he was run out in the 11th over.
“He bowled really well, but these are opportunities that need to be made the most of. Had he batted in the 18th or 20th over, he could have taken KKR a lot closer,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz. “I always say if you want to learn something from Virat Kohli, learn how he approaches running. Try to stay till the end and win the match for your team. If he did that, he would have become a star.”
A mix-up with Rinku Singh led to the dismissal of Raghuvanshi, triggering KKR’s collapse. The team slipped from 120 for 4 to 161, ultimately falling short in their chase and suffering yet another early season defeat.
The defeat led to captain Ajinkya Rahane’s outburst in the post-match press conference. The former India Test captain was quick to defend his performance in the shorter format, saying his success rate remains among the best since 2023.
“My strike rate… I have the best strike rate ever, since 2023. People who are talking probably don’t follow the game or have some agenda against me,” Rahane told reporters after the match. “They don’t like me playing. They don’t like watching me play. The amount of success I’m having, they’re probably jealous of that.”
The three-time IPL champions will now take on last season’s runners-up Punjab Kings at the Eden Garden on April 6, followed by the visit of Lucknow Super Giants on April 9.
