Parliament on Thursday (April 3, 2026) passed a bill amending 784 provisions in 79 central laws to decriminalize and rationalize minor offenses to further improve the business environment in the country.
The Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2026 was passed in the Rajya Sabha by voice vote after Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal responded to a discussion on the legislation.
The minister said that the legislation will help citizens and small and medium-sized enterprises.
The bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on Wednesday (April 1).
These Acts are administered by 23 ministries, including the Ministry of Coal, Trade and Industry, Shipping, Urban Development and Transport. Out of 784, 717 provisions are being changed to decriminalize less serious crimes and 67 to make life easier.
