US President Donald Trump on Thursday (local time) criticized singer Bruce Springsteen, calling him a “dried plum” who “suffered a lot from the work of a really bad plastic surgeon”.
Trump’s remarks, which escalated his feud with Springsteen, came hours after he gave a prime-time speech about the ongoing war in Iran. In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote that the singer “has long had a terrible and incurable case of Trump Derangement Syndrome, sometimes referred to as TDS. This guy is a total loser who spews hate against a president who won a landslide election, including the popular vote, all seven Swing States and 86% of the districts across America.”
Trump vs. Springsteen
The dispute escalated after Springsteen, a longtime critic of Trump, said on March 31 at the opening night of his “Land of Hope and Dreams American Tour” in Minneapolis, “We are living in very dark times,” adding: “Our American values that have sustained us for 250 years are being challenged like never before. We are threatened by the illegal lives of young men and women in this non-conflict war. reported.”
Springsteen continued his attack on Trump and his administration: “We have a president who can’t handle the truth.” He also commented on the current political scenario in the US and how the Trump administration continues to crack down on immigrants. The singer said immigrants are being held in detention centers across the country, with many being deported without due process, adding that many are being sent to foreign countries and foreign gulags.
He added that the US was now leaving the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and its allies who had previously fought the US, and criticized Trump and his recent plans.
According to a TIME report, Springsteen’s attack on the Trump administration came after the government sent nearly 3,000 federal officers to Minneapolis this winter in what was the nation’s largest immigration crackdown and an operation that left two Americans dead. He responded in the way he knows best: returning to the studio to create one of his hardest protest songs in years. It was followed by an unscheduled 18-city tour that began in Minneapolis and ended in Washington, DC. The route itself carried symbolic weight, leading the way from the site of violence to the center of the nation’s political power.
Washington is reassessing its NATO membership
In an interview with The Telegraph on Wednesday, Trump said Washington was reconsidering its NATO membership and called the alliance a “paper tiger.” His remarks came after Trump’s appeal to his allies in Europe fell flat amid the ongoing war in Iran and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait of Hormuz was closed by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) days after the US and Iran went to war against Tehran in late February. The arterial waterway, which is responsible for transporting a fifth of the world’s oil reserves, has sent shockwaves through global energy markets, spooked traders and driven oil prices to record highs.
