
Rowing experts Tarun Kakani and Balaji Maradapa on Thursday surveyed the Krishna river in Vijayawada to build a water sports centre.
Andhra Pradesh Rowing and Rowing Association President Tarun Kakani and Rowing Federation of India President Balaji Maradapa on Thursday met AP Sports Authority (SAAP) Managing Director (MD) S. Bharani to discuss the plan to develop rowing in the state.
During the meeting, Mr. Kakani and Mr. Maradapa put forward a proposal to set up big rowing centers in Suryalanka, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Jangareddygudem.
The discussion focused on using the state’s water resources to build a strong rowing ecosystem and nurture competitive talent, according to a press release.
Mr. Maradapa pledged the federation’s full support towards the development of rowing in the state, including the provision of boats, technical expertise and coaching support.
Upcoming events
Talking about the upcoming events, Mr. Kakani said that the district level selections for the SAAP sports meet will begin on April 3, followed by the state level competitions later in April to identify and nurture talented sportspersons across the state.
