
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday that likely isolated heavy rainfall and thunderstorms with strong winds (50-60 km/h, gusts up to 70 km/h) are expected over Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi and East Rajasthan on Friday and Saturday.
It said a fresh wet spell is likely on Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rain or snowfall along with thundershowers, lightning and gusty winds (30-50 kmph) over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
During the same period, isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall with thundershowers, lightning and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are also expected over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Rajasthan.
“Isolated heavy rains likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad on April 3 and 4,” the IMD said.
He added: “Thundersquall (wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph) likely over Jammu-Kashmir-LadakhGilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana Chandigarh and Delhi and East Rajasthan on 3. West Rajhandrak on 3rd and 4th; 4th and Uttar Pradesh on April 4th and 5th.’
IMD weather forecast in India
The IMD said two active western disturbances are expected to hit northwest India this week with peak intensity likely tomorrow, day after tomorrow and Tuesday. Hailstorm is also likely in some parts of the region on Friday and Saturday and isolated heavy rainfall over the Kashmir Valley during the same period.
It further said that a wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected over central India till Monday, with isolated hail likely to continue till Saturday, while day temperatures are expected to remain near below normal in northwest India during the week.
“Isolated to Scattered light to moderate showers with thundershowers, lightning and gusty winds (speed reaching 40-50 km/h with gusts up to 60 km/h) likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands on 2nd, West Bengal and Sikkim on 7/5, Jharkhand during next wind 5/4. speed. 50-60 km/h with gusts up to 70 km/h) likely over Bihar during April 5 and 6 in Jharkhand,” the IMD said on the weather in eastern India.
Isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thundershowers, lightning and gusty winds (30-50 kmph) is likely over central India during the next five days. Thunderstorms with strong winds (50-60 km/h, gusts up to 70 km/h) are expected over West Madhya Pradesh on Friday and Saturday.
The IMD further mentioned isolated hail activity over Madhya Pradesh from Thursday to Saturday and over Chhattisgarh on Saturday.
For West India, it said: “Isolated to scattered light to moderate showers with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds (speeds reaching 40-50 gusts up to 60 km/h) likely over Madhya Maharashtra on 4th, Marathawada on 4th and 5th April and Gujarat state and 3rd April 2002 Mahatrash coast on 2nd April thunderstorm (wind speed reaching 50-60 km/h with gusts up to 70 km/h) with isolated hail likely over Madhya Maharashtra and Marathawada on 2nd and 3rd April.
The IMD said isolated light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thundershowers, lightning and gusty winds (30-50 km/h, gusts up to 60 km/h) are likely over Kerala and Mahé from Thursday to Sunday; Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Telangana and interior Karnataka from Thursday to Monday; and Rayalaseema on Sunday and Monday.
It added that lightning activity is likely over coastal Karnataka from Thursday to Saturday and over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal from Friday to Monday.
The IMD further said that hot and humid conditions are very likely to prevail over Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha till Saturday.
