The budget session of Parliament is unlikely to end on April 2 as originally scheduled. Sources said the government is considering reconvening Parliament on April 16 to discuss the amendments to the Constitution (One Hundred and Sixth Amendment) Bill, popularly known as the Women’s Reservation Act, 2023, to speed up its implementation.
The government has proposed that delimitation, an essential step to implement the Women’s Reservation Act, 2023, will be based on the 2011 census instead of waiting for the conclusion of the ongoing census.

According to sources, the Lok Sabha Secretariat has been asked to look into the precedents where a session of Parliament has been extended beyond its schedule to take up additional legislative business.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also told its allies about possible dates for the debate, sources said.
According to sources, the budget session will not be adjourned to April 2 without interruption. Instead, the Speaker will adjourn both houses and extend the session to reconvene on April 16.
Apart from Congress and Left parties, Home Minister Amit Shah and his ministerial colleagues met other political parties. Congress insists on convening an all-party meeting for a broader pre-legislative consultation before bringing the required amendments to the floor of parliament.
