Bangalore Hospice Trust, Karunashraya, on Wednesday launched the Kannada edition of its caregiver education series on home palliative care, ‘Moments That Matter’.
Designed to be accessible to a variety of literacy levels, this 17-module animated series offers guidance on care practices, including back care, pressure ulcer prevention, bladder care, and wound dressings. Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao launched the series which was uploaded on YouTube.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that more than 52,000 terminally ill patients in Karnataka are being provided palliative care at home under the National Program for Palliative Care (NPPC).
Palliative care aims to improve the quality of life of patients and their families facing serious and life-limiting illnesses through early identification and management of pain and other physical, psychological and social problems.
Palliative care TAC
The Government of Karnataka has recently constituted a State Level Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) on Palliative Care to guide the planning, implementation and monitoring of services across Karnataka.
The initiative is in line with the National Program for Palliative Care (NPPC). The government has also indicated its intention to draw on best practices, particularly the community-based model implemented in Kerala, which combines home, outpatient and institutional care with community participation, the minister said.
Karunashraya, a joint initiative of the Indian Cancer Society and Rotary Bangalore Indiranagar, has been providing free palliative care to advanced cancer patients since 1994. The organization operates three home care services and a 73-bed inpatient facility near Kundalahalli Gate, caring for over 31,500 patients.
Gap in continuity of care
Nagesh Simha, Karunashraya’s medical director, said a gap in continuity of care is often seen when patients return home, with families facing difficulties managing symptoms such as bedsores and infections. “To address this, we developed ‘Moments That Matter.’ The English version of the series, which was launched at IAPCON 2026 in Hyderabad, received national recognition. The Kannada edition is expected to improve access to support for caregivers across Karnataka,” he said.
All 17 videos were made available on Karunashraya’s YouTube channel and organized into video playlists under the same name.
