Farmers in Dausa and Karauli districts of eastern Rajasthan will get electricity for irrigation during the day in two blocks, extending the facility to 24 districts in the state, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said on Monday evening.
The target was set in the revised state budget for 2024-25.
Mr. Sharma said steps are being taken to ensure daily power supply to farmers in all 50 districts of the state. Agricultural consumers in 22 districts were earlier supplied with power in two daily blocks. With the inclusion of Dausa and Karauli under Jaipur Discom, the number of districts covered under the scheme has increased to 24.
Mr. Sharma said farmers in seven districts under Jaipur Discom — Dholpur, Bundi, Kota, Jhalawar, Jaipur, Deeg and Bharatpur — had pre-set electricity supply in two daily blocks for irrigation.
Similarly, 12 districts including Ajmer, Beawar, Bhilwara, Didwana-Kuchaman, Udaipur, Salumbar, Rajsamand, Banswara, Jhunjhunu, Sikar, Chittorgarh and Dungarpur are covered under Ajmer Discom. Three districts under Jodhpur Discom – Jalore, Sirohi and Pali – are also getting the facility.
As part of efforts to strengthen power infrastructure in recent years, 18 new 33 kV substations have been set up in Dausa and six in Karauli. Transformer capacity was also increased by 128.95 MVA at 47 substations in Dausa and 49.45 MVA at 15 substations at Karauli.
In addition, 17 solar power plants with a combined capacity of 32 MW have been installed in two districts under Prime Minister’s Kusum Yojana components A and C. Mr. Sharma said about 52,400 agricultural consumers in Dausa and 35,300 in Karauli would benefit from daily electricity supply.
The latest move will reduce the need for late-night irrigation, especially in winter and rain, and help farmers avoid the risks of wild animals in their agricultural fields. (EOM)
