Sarvepalli MLA and former minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy directly accused officials of encroaching on public land along roads, tanks, country roads and burial grounds.
After inaugurating several development projects on Tuesday (March 31), including roads laid at a cost of ₹43 crore at Papireddypalem village in Thotapalli Gudur mandal, he said the burden of protecting public property rests on the shoulders of the official machinery.
When villagers brought to his notice the issue of encroachment on the burial ground, Mr. Reddy took strong exception to the manner in which such public land was taken, calling it a failure of the concerned local officials.
He directed the revenue officials to immediately take steps to acquire such lands and initiate strict action against the encroachers.
Recalling that the same village had witnessed tremendous development with ₹2.5 crore sanctioned during the erstwhile TDP regime from 2014-19, he thanked Shanta Biotech management for agreeing to fund ₹10,000 for the development of the local burial ground.
Mr. Chandramohan Reddy later offered prayers at the Kanakamma temple and the local Sivalayam.
