Comedian and political commentator Jon Stewart has delivered a scathing critique of POTUS Donald Trump, describing the president’s recent public behavior as unbecoming of a leader during a time of national tension.
Jon Stewart mocks Donald Trump, questions tone of leadership amid crisis
On his program, Stewart said Trump’s tone and demeanor seemed detached from the gravity of the moment.
“You know, honestly, his lecherous behavior is less ‘commander in chief at war’ and more ‘grandpa who lost his filter in public,'” Stewart joked about Trump’s recent behavior. “Instead of calming a jittery nation, he just embarrasses the whole family at dinner and says, ‘Hey, you see our waitress is busty! Just like your grandma’.”
The remarks come at a time when Trump’s leadership style and communication strategy are drawing increasing attention, especially in the context of an ongoing conflict that critics say has not been clearly articulated to the public.
Stewart also took aim at comments made by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who recently spoke at the Conservative Political Action Conference. During his speech, Kennedy praised Trump’s intellectual abilities, claimed the president had “encyclopedic, molecular knowledge” and recounted an anecdote in which Trump allegedly drew a “perfect map” of the Middle East, complete with troop locations.
In response, Stewart expressed skepticism. “Has anybody thought about filming it? Let’s take a look at it,” Stewart said. “Because that’s not what we’re seeing. What we’re seeing is the president four weeks before a war he has yet to fully explain, with goals he’s yet to fully define, just showing molecular knowledge to a cabinet meeting according to his own preferences.”
The segment then highlighted footage of Trump’s speech at a cabinet meeting, where he talked about distributing expensive stationery to supporters. “It was $1,000 a piece, beautiful pen, ballpoint pen, $1,000, it was gold, silver, beautiful,” Trump said in the clip. “But I’m handing out to kids who don’t even know what the hell — ‘What’s this, Mom?’ There are kids, they get a $1,000 pen. They have no idea what it is.”
Stewart used the example to highlight what he called a disconnect between the administration’s priorities and the gravity of the situation. “That’s a cabinet meeting during the f—–g war,” cried Stewart.
He went on to criticize the administration’s broader message, arguing that the public was repeatedly asked to endure economic and social strain in the name of national progress. “You know, we keep hearing from this administration why the American people have to sacrifice themselves for Trump’s vision of American greatness,” Stewart said. “That these temporary disruptions are just part of the process and why can’t we be patriotic?”
Stewart added that such expectations contrasted with what he characterized as Trump’s unchanged personal style. “It’s up to us to figure it out, but Trump is going to be the same old, ‘I’m not a stinker,’ totally biased, ‘Remember when I wanted to be the hot girl me.’
