England Test opener Ben Duckett has been fined £700 after being caught speeding at 93mph on his way to a match, days after withdrawing from the Indian Premier League. Duckett who is yet to play in the IPLwas bought by Delhi Capitals for Rs 2 crore in the IPL 2026 auction in December last year.
The 31-year-old, who has averaged just 16 so far in the ongoing series, was booked for speeding on the A50 near Stoke in Staffordshire. Duckett was behind the wheel of his Land Rover when he was targeted by a police speed gun on August 24 last year.

The incident took place just hours before Duckett starred in Birmingham Phoenix’s 100th win over Manchester Originals at Old Trafford. Staffordshire Police later released traffic camera footage which appeared to show the English batter speeding down a busy road.
Duckett pleaded guilty to the charges in September after being tipped off by police and pleaded guilty when authorities opted for criminal prosecution rather than an out-of-court settlement. He has now been fined £700, given four penalty points on his driving license and ordered to pay £120 in costs along with a £280 victim surcharge.
The development comes after Duckett withdrew from the Indian Premier League in a bid to retain his England Test place. The decision will cost him £200,000 with the Delhi Capitals and result in a ban until 2029.
Instead of featuring in the IPL, Duckett will feature for Nottinghamshire in the County Championship as he looks to regain form and confidence after a tough winter. His struggles included a disappointing Ashes campaign, missing out on the T20 World Cup and controversy after he was filmed drunk during England’s break in Noosa.
Duckett is expected to spend considerable time working on his game with Nottinghamshire and former England coach Peter Moores. Meanwhile, chief executive Rob Key has hinted that England will adopt a more ruthless approach to selection following the Ashes review.
Duckett, one of the early faces of the England era of Baseball, now finds his place at the top of the Test order under increasing scrutiny.
Earlier, Duckett said: “I made the decision on my own. I felt the best thing for me to be ready to play for England was to be here now, at home, refresh my mind and body and get in the best shape of my life, come the first Test in June.
“Everything I’ve done for four years has been building up to this winter. It might have been the best 12 months of my life. I got married in October, then I was hoping to win the Ashes down under, play the World Cup and win it. It couldn’t have been much worse but it lit a massive fire in my belly.”
