Congress President and Kerala Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan on Tuesday (March 31, 2026) said the CPI(M) must first explain Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s photograph of the Sabarimala gold loss cases, which are primarily blamed on Unnikrishnan Potti, before accusing Sonia Gandhi in the matter.
Mr Satheesan was reacting when reporters pointed out that after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi sang a line from a popular parody song about the reported role of CPI(M) leaders in the theft of gold from the Sabarimala temple, the Left party launched a social media campaign blaming Mrs Gandhi over the matter.
Mr. Satheesan said that Mr. Vijayan was the Chief Minister of the state and was said to be aware of the misappropriation of gold from the Sabarimala temple and who was behind it.

“So why did he take a picture with Potti? Let it be investigated first and then we can investigate Sonia Gandhi,” he said.
Addressing an election meeting in Pathanamthitta on Monday, Mr Gandhi sang the line “swarnam kattathu aarappa” (“who stole gold from Ayyappa”) from a song used by the UDF to sway voters against the Left during local polls a few months ago.
