Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Monday launched a scathing attack on former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, alleging that the latter built a “palace” for himself at Rushikonda in Visakhapatnam while neglecting the housing needs of the state’s poor.
Mr. Naidu, who was participating in the heat insulation program of more than 2.5 million houses in the state from Puduru village in Naidupeta mandal of Tirupati district, said the Telugu Desam Party government had earlier planned to build 4.73 million houses for the poor under the NTR Housing project, but the program was canceled after the YSR Congress party came to power. He claimed that dues of ₹923 crore were also unpaid.
Mr. Naidu further said that the “downfall” of YSRCP began with the demolition of Praja Vedika. He accused the previous government of raising loans to the tune of ₹9.70 crore and indulging in corruption, irregularities and abuse of power. He also alleged that funds provided by the center were diverted, which warranted sanctions.
The Chief Minister alleged that the previous regime had misused ₹174 crore paid to AP TIDCO beneficiaries and said that the current coalition government was returning this amount to 22,000 beneficiaries. He further alleged that houses were allotted in unsuitable locations such as suburbs, graveyards, streams and hills, making it difficult for the beneficiaries to build houses.
