As many as 10,922 voters in the above-85 and persons with disabilities (PwD) categories availed the home voting facility in Kerala on Monday, with the Election Commission of India (EC) launching the facility for the April 9 assembly elections.
The tally included 7,561 voters above the age of 85 and 3,361 voters in the PWD category, according to an 8:00 pm update from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (Kerala).
A total of 2,227 election teams were deployed on Monday (April 30, 2026).
A total of 2,07,757 voters in both categories opted for the facility in the state. The EC approved 1,45,592 applications from voters in the 85+ category and 62,220 applications from voters with disabilities to use the option.
Voters are informed of the schedule in advance and a team of election officials will visit their residences to help them vote. The EC provides this facility under Section 60(c) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, so that both categories of voters can cast their vote by postal ballot. Domestic voting will be completed by April 5. Candidates are also informed about the visits of election teams so that they can appoint their representative to accompany them.
