Five persons were on Monday sentenced to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment by First Additional District and Sessions Judge S. Narayana in Jagtial for their involvement in the cultivation, supply and sale of ganja. The court also fined them ₹10,000.
Accused Soyam Raju, a native of Adilabad district, Pala Raj Kumar, Bommidi Saichand, Bala Naresh and Koluguri Sai Srujan, all from Jagtial district, were found guilty under the provisions of the Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS).
According to the prosecution, the five accused were arrested after a police patrol in Nookapalli caught them with 1.25 kilograms of dry ganja on 23 December 2022.
Subsequent investigation revealed that the main accused Soyam Raju was growing ganja in his cotton field and supplying it to consumers along with the co-accused who were themselves “regular consumers” of ganja.
