In a chilling echo of the 2022 Shraddha Walkar case, a married Navy official allegedly invited his girlfriend to his house in Visakhapatnam’s Gajuwaka area, killed her, dismembered her body and stored the remains in his refrigerator. He also allegedly tried to dispose of the body parts by burning them in a vacant lot near Adavivaram.
The incident came to light recently when the police identified the accused as Chintad Ravindra, posted at INS Dega, news website PTI reported. The victim has been identified as 28-year-old Polipalli Mounika.
Police said Ravindra then ordered a knife online and cut up the body. He separated the head, limbs and torso, bagged some parts and stored others in the fridge. Some parts of the body were reportedly burnt in an empty place near Adavivaram, while others were disposed of at different places.
“Navy personnel (Ravindra) killed Mounik at his residence on Sunday after an argument and later dismembered the body and disposed of the parts at different places,” an official told PTI.
According to a police official, in 2021, Ravindra was “matched” with Mounika on the dating app “Mingle”. The two developed a relationship over time and would often meet at various places around Visakhapatnam such as parks and theatres, police said.
On the day of the incident, Ravindra called Mounik when his wife had gone to her parents’ house to spend time together. But after some time an argument broke out between them and Ravindra choked her to death.
An NDTV report said that Ravindra packed her legs and hips in a bag on a cart and carried her head and hands to another location. He also wrapped the carcass in a bag and hid it in his refrigerator.
After disposing of some parts, Ravindra reached the police station and confessed to killing Mounik.
According to the police official, the woman allegedly took ₹3.5 lakh from the accused and threatened to reveal their relationship to his wife, leading to frequent arguments between them.
Investigators revealed that Ravindra planned the murder, driven by what he described as constant harassment and threats from Mounik, which began after he married another woman in 2024.
Police found body parts in the refrigerator and in the house. They said the head was missing. A special team was formed to search for the body parts.
