Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao on Thursday (July 2, 2026) accused the Congress government of blocking opposition leaders from holding a debate and described the police action at Telangana Bhavan and Gun Park as “disgraceful”.
Speaking to reporters at the main gates of Telangana Bhavan after being prevented from going to the Kanchanbagh police station where BRS leaders T. Harish Rao and others were detained, KTR said BRS leaders had gathered at Telangana Bhavan at 10 am to meet Minister Juplally Krishna Rao, who had earlier called for a discussion by the party.
“We even had a chair ready and a shawl ready for the welcome, but he didn’t come,” KTR said. He alleged that when Mr. Harish Rao and other leaders tried to move towards the Gun Park, the police arrested them before they could leave the premises.
He questioned why the government was reluctant to engage in the debate. “If the Chief Minister has the courage, let him call an extraordinary session of the Assembly. We are ready to discuss the corruption, failures and debt situation of the state for the last 30 months,” he said. He demanded the immediate release of Mr. Harish Rao and other detained leaders who were taken to Kanchanbagh Police Station.
The BRS leader also raised questions about ongoing investigations, including the Enforcement Directorate raids on minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, alleged irregularities in Amrit tenders and contracts awarded to BJP MPs under the Congress government. “Why no action was taken even after the PM himself talked about collecting ‘RR tax’ in the state?” asked KTR.
He criticized the government for what he described as a “flight from debate” and the use of the police to suppress dissent. “Ministers throw challenges while sitting comfortably, but when we accept them, they run away. This shows the downfall of the government,” he said.
