A video showing what could have been a fatal road accident caused by a ‘prank’ has gone viral on social media. A video posted on Instagram showed a boy sitting in the back seat of a car throwing water balloons at motorcyclists passing by a flyover in Delhi.
Instagram user sachinmvlogs2510, who posted the video, said the boy first threw a water balloon at him and would do the same to other bikers.
A “prank” causes a near fatal accident
As the Instagram user continued to film, the boy did just that – he threw a water balloon at another biker.
The video showed the second biker wobble and almost hit the boundary wall from where he could have fallen.
What followed was even more shocking. When the biker who was filming the incident decided to confront the occupants of the car, they refused to stop or even slow down despite his numerous requests to do so.
Parents “enjoy” children’s pranks
A woman in the front seat of the car laughed even as the biker pleaded with the boy’s parents to slow down.
Social media users are looking for accountability
The video soon went viral across social media platforms with many expressing shock and disgust at the parents’ behavior towards their child’s reckless act.
Many also tagged Delhi Police and Delhi Traffic Police in the comments section and demanded strict action against the child’s parents.
In 2024, 1.77 million lives were lost on the roads
In December 2025, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari told Parliament that a total of 1.77 million people were killed in 4,80,583 road accidents in India in 2024.
In other words, in 2024, 485 people will die in traffic accidents every day.
“As per information received from States/UTs, the total number of fatal road accidents reported in the country on all categories of roads during 2024 was 1,77,177, which includes data for Bengal taken from the Electronic Detailed Accident Reports (eDAR) portal,” Gadkari informed the Lok Sabha.
In 2025, there were 1,617 road accident deaths in Delhi
Data released in January 2026 showed that in 2025, a total of 1,617 deaths in 1,578 fatal accidents were recorded in Delhi.
This was the highest number of fatalities since 2019 and represented a clear increase from 2024, when 1,551 people were killed in 1,504 fatal crashes.
According to the police, the increase in traffic accidents was caused by several factors, including excessive speed, driving on the wrong side of the road and driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. In addition, there were other factors such as distracted driving, poor adherence to road traffic rules and occasional lapses in road safety awareness.
