Harbhajan Singh on Sunday came down hard on a fan on social media with a “dog” cry after the former India cricketer was accused of being jealous of peer Ravichandran Ashwin. The incident came to light after Ashwin made his Hindi commentary debut during the first match of the 19th edition of the inaugural Indian Premier League (IPL) in Bengaluru.
It all started with an X account called ‘Homie’, which called Harbhajan a “chapri” (a derogatory term used to refer to someone’s alleged lack of taste or class) along with former cricketers Navjot Singh Sidhu and Virender Sehwag. In the photo collage, the user placed West Indies’ Ian Bishop on top of the Indian cricket trio of Sehwag, Sidhu and Harbhajan.
“Caribbean hoke bhi Indian players ko in teeno se zyada janta hu (Despite being Caribbean, I know the Indian players better than these three),” read the text on the picture, along with a caption that reached “Ian Bishop is more Indian than these capri Hindi commentators.”
Harbhajan could not accept such a comment and therefore did not say anything against the user. “An elephant is walking through the market. Dogs are barking a thousand times. Get out of here, Tommy. Not Homie,” was Harbhajan’s reply. The user was in no mood to stop there as he once again set his sights on the former Indian spinner.
In another post, the same user said, “Ashwin is jealous tera career kha gayi ab comment pe dhyan de warning yaha se bhi leave hona padega.” “Turbanator” but “t*rror” for comment).”
In his reply, Harbhajan said, “Dogs can’t digest ghee and a loser like you won’t be able to digest my answer. Go away Tommy.” Not to forget, Ashwin has a massive social media presence with almost 8 million subscribers on YouTube. Harbhajan also has a YouTube presence but not as high as Ashwin.
R Ashwin becomes first Indian to sign MLC contract
Ashwin, meanwhile, became the first Indian to play in Major League Cricket (MLC) in the United States when he signed with the San Francisco Unicorns on Saturday. The 39-year-old all-rounder retired from international cricket in December 2024 after playing 106 Tests for India, taking 537 wickets and hitting six Test sets.
Spinner Ashwin has made 65 appearances in T20 Internationals. In the IPL, he played for his hometown Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals and the now defunct Rising Pune Supergiant.
