Unidentified miscreants murdered Sangappa Nalatwad (45), former Gram Panchayat president, at Gaddankeri Cross in Bagalkot district on Saturday.
A preliminary investigation revealed that he had been hacked to death near a bar he rented. According to the police, the attackers fled in a car. The cause of the attack is not yet known, police said.
Mr Nalatvad was a follower of MLA GT Patil. Mr. Patil was among the first to reach the spot. Mr. Nalatvad’s wife also previously served as GP president.
SP Siddarth Goel, Deputy SP Gajanan Sutar, Police Inspector Ramanna Biradar and other police officers visited the spot and spoke to the victim’s family and associates. A case has been registered at Kaladagi police station.
