Kashmiri chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, also head of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU) amalgam of religious groups, met Iranian ambassador Dr.
“People of J&K have a lot of pain in their hearts due to the oppression and injustice faced by Iran, Lebanon, Palestine. People came out to Kashmir peacefully to protest against it. People are even collecting money now. Kashmir has historical connection with Iran because of culture, faith,” said Mirwaiz.
Mirwaiz was joined by senior religious leaders including Mufti Nasser-ul-Islam, Aga Syed Hassan Al-Mosvi, Aga Syed Hadi Al-Mosvi and Aga Syed Mujtaba during the visit to the Iranian Embassy. He also wrote a “deep sense of sadness and grief in the condolence book at the embassy” and paid “rich tributes on behalf of the people of J&K to Khamenei”.
An MMU spokesman said the delegation led by Mirwaiz “expressed sincere condolences on the martyrdom of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, his family members and other leadership”. “The delegation expressed deep solidarity with the Iranian people in their hour of invasion and hardship,” the spokesman said.
The delegation also expressed “serious concern and condemnation of the ongoing war imposed on Iran by Israel and the United States,” according to the spokesman. Mirwaiz, the spokesman said, hoped that “diplomatic efforts to end this aggression and restore peace and stability will prevail.”
Meanwhile, the delegation highlighted the deep-rooted cultural, historical and religious ties between Kashmir and Iran. “Kashmir has long been referred to as ‘Iran-e-Sagheer’ (Little Iran), reflecting the enduring bond between the two nations,” the spokesman said.
