Chairman and CEO of Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (APSPDCL) Sivasankar Lotheti has announced that power consumers are getting a big relief in electricity tariffs as the government has agreed to bridge the revenue gap.
The Electricity Tariff Regulation recently issued by APERC for the financial year 2026-27 has brought considerable relief to electricity consumers under APSPDCL.
The orders recently issued by the government in line with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s announcement to make up the revenue gap of power distribution companies are to bridge the revenue gap of ₹ 8,238 crore for the Southern Discom.
“As a result, 53.84 million domestic consumers under APSPDCL have been protected from tariff hike. Additionally, 12.15 million agricultural consumers continue to receive free power supply,” Mr. Lotheti said in a statement on Friday.
The order will also help continue the free electricity scheme for SC/ST households, hair salons and Dhobi ghats. The unit rate for commercial consumers has also been reduced from ₹12.25 to ₹9.95, bringing substantial relief. The increase in load shedding on power looms from 10 HP to 20 HP will benefit 18,000 weavers, the CMD noted.
