Players ditch PSL for IPL
The PSL was hit by a new wave of exits in 2026, with several overseas players leaving the tournament to join the IPL as substitutes. The overlap between the two leagues for the second consecutive year has once again revealed the appeal of the IPL over rival T20 competitions.
So far, at least three confirmed players have left the PSL for the IPL – Blessing Muzarabani, Dasun Shanaka and Spencer Johnson. Muzarabani, who was supposed to play for Islamabad United, moved to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as a replacement for Mustafizur Rahman.
Shanaka withdrew from Lahore Qalandars and joined Rajasthan Royals (RR) in place of injured Sam Curran. Johnson was to play for Islamabad United, but now he will play for Chennai Super Kings as a replacement for Nathan Ellis.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has expressed his frustration over the players opting for the IPL after being selected in the PSL auction. With the PSL clashing with the IPL for the second consecutive year, Naqvi said overlapping schedules were not a major issue, but warned that any player breaching contractual obligations would face legal action.
