
Bengaluru East City Corporation Commissioner DS Ramesh presented the corporation’s first annual budget with a total expenditure of ₹3,889.98 crore, prioritizing connectivity, infrastructure and public health.
The corporation has earmarked ₹2.25 crore for the ward, making a total of ₹112.50 crore, following Bengaluru city MLAs’ demands for ₹5 crore per ward during a meeting held last week.

Among the key announcements, Mr. Ramesh said that ₹200 crore worth of municipal bonds would be offered and the funds raised would be used for two separate infrastructure projects – a grade separator on Alpine Eco Road and a flyover connecting Varthur and Gunjur.
The budget largely focuses on public works aimed at improving last-mile connectivity and ensuring smoother traffic flow through the development of major and minor roads.
Mr. Ramesh said that the corporation already owns 56,722.6 sq m of land for expansion of various major and sub-arterial roads. ₹ 70 crore is earmarked in the budget for further land purchase.
Further, ₹112.5 crore was earmarked for the overall development and maintenance of roads and sewers within the company’s jurisdiction.
Outer Ring Development Plan
The company reiterated the ₹450 crore redevelopment plan for the Outer Ring Road (ORR).
Mr. Ramesh mentioned the plans to build footpaths along the Namma Metro Viaduct in collaboration with the Outer Ring Road Companies Association (ORRCA) which was recently announced in the state budget.
Apart from this, asphalting of the ORR service road from KR Puram to Iblur Junction has been started. Outside this section, the ORR falls under the jurisdiction of South Corporation.
The company will embark on road development in the areas surrounding the ORR, primarily to improve last-mile connectivity.
₹50 crore has been allocated for improving intersections, skywalks and pedestrian-friendly initiatives on major roads. In addition, the company plans to build 100 km of footpaths.
₹300 crore has been earmarked for waste management, including disposal, collection and sanitation-related works.
The corporation will undertake beautification of flyovers and underpasses through public private partnership.
Of the 58 flood-prone areas identified, 38 are already being addressed and funds have been allocated for flood mitigation in the remaining locations.
₹28 crore has been allocated for the maintenance of 45 lakes under its jurisdiction, while ₹25 crore has been earmarked for the development of four lakes.
The company has earmarked ₹20 crore for comprehensive development of key public spaces and preparation of a climate action plan.
