PM Modi Meeting LIVE Updates: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet Chief Ministers via video conference today, March 27, to review state-level preparedness amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
Date, time and schedule
The virtual meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. During the interaction, the ministers will assess the implications of the ongoing war in the Middle East on India, particularly in terms of LPG and crude oil supplies, news agency ANI reported.
PM Modi’s CCS meeting: Prime Minister Modi will chair a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security, the highest decision-making body on the country’s security and strategic affairs, in Delhi later on Sunday evening, government sources said.
“The prime minister will chair the CCS meeting on his return to Delhi this evening from his two-day tour of the states. He is expected to land here around 9.30 pm,” a source said. PM Modi visited Rajasthan, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during the two-day tour.
Blocking rumors vs reality
The meeting comes amid reports of LPG shortages due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz amid the war. The government has repeatedly dispelled rumours, dismissing speculation of a nationwide lockdown on Friday and assuring citizens that no such proposal is under consideration.
“I want to assure people that there will be no lock-in. I am surprised that some leaders are saying there will be a lock-in and fuel shortage. This is baseless,” Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said.
Fuel shortage in India today? The government said there is no shortage of petrol or diesel in India. “…while other nations are rationing, there is no shortage of supplies in India,” it said on Thursday, adding that “oil supplies for the next 60 days have already been committed by Indian oil companies”.
So why is the government pushing PNG? The government said that: “Claims that PNG is being squeezed because LPG is running out is misinformation. LPG supplies are secure.” He clarified that Piped Natural Gas (PNG) is being promoted — in full coordination with state governments — as it is cheaper, cleaner and safer for Indian households.
