
Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s health is steadily improving and she will be discharged from the hospital in one to two days, her doctors said on Friday.
The 79-year-old leader was accepted Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on Tuesday night around 10:22 PM after he developed a fever.
According to hospital chairman Ajay Swaroop, Gandhi is “much better”, showing medical improvement and comfortable.
“She is walking and has had breakfast. Overall her progress is smooth and we hope she will be fit enough to be discharged in a day or two,” he said.
According to doctors attending the Congress leader, Gandhi is being treated for a systemic infections and responds well to antibiotics. She remains under the supervision of a team of senior doctors who are closely monitoring her condition.
Respiratory complications associated with pollution
On Wednesday, hospital chairman Dr Ajay Swaroop noted that respiratory factors also affected Sonia Gandhi’s condition. After evaluation, the doctors found that her bronchial asthma was slightly aggravated by the seasonal conditions in Delhi.
The exacerbation was attributed to a combination of cold weather and increased pollution levels — factors that have historically posed a risk to individuals with respiratory sensitivities.
She walks by and took her breakfast. Overall, her progress is smooth.
The Congress Parliamentary Party leader felt discomfort due to the change in weather and was being watched. The treating doctors indicated that it was nothing serious.
She was taken to Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital in Shimla in June last year after she complained of high blood pressure, a party functionary said, while she was on a personal visit to the state with her daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
