The Hyderabad Against Trans Erasure Collective has condemned the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Bill, 2026, which was passed in both houses of Parliament. The collective called the legislation an abrogation of constitutional rights and a shift toward a state-controlled identity. The bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on 24 March and in the Rajya Sabha on 25 March.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, the collective said the amendment undermines the right to self-identification recognized under the NALSA judgment and reintroduces medical and bureaucratic controls.
