CUSAT Fee Increase: Syndicate to consider student application

The authorities of Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) will bring the decision to introduce fee hike across various heads in the new academic year again before the Syndicate.

The move comes in the wake of repeated demands by student organizations for a review of the hike in the fee structure. They pointed out that the hike will result in an increased financial burden on students.

Senior officials of the universities said that the Syndicate meeting held on December 20, 2025 approved the report submitted by the sub-committee formed to suggest fee hike for various academic programmes. The decision to bring the issue to the syndicate again was taken based on the demands of the student organizations and discussions held with their representatives, they said.

However, the revised fee structure will apply to admissions to undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the academic year 2026-27. “We are not in a position to change the revised fee structure at this stage as the admission process has already started,” officials said.

When asked about the possible date of the next meeting of the Syndicate, they said that it is not yet clear, especially in view of the proposed re-establishment of the supreme body after the formation of the new United Democratic Front government.

Organisations, including the Students Federation of India (SFI) and the Kerala Students Union, opposed the fee hike. In a letter submitted to SFÚ authorities, he said there had been a substantial increase in the normal academic fees to be paid at the time of admission in 2026 compared to the 2025 rates.
