“Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on the night of March 24 due to fever. According to Dr Ajay Swaroop, chairman SGRH, she is undergoing antibiotic treatment for a systemic infection under the supervision of Dr DS Rana, Dr S Nundy and Dr Arup Basu and is responding to treatment.”
A follow-up update from the hospital provided further clarification on her condition:
“Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on Tuesday at 10.22 pm. She is stable. Doctors are conducting further investigations to find out possible infection in the stomach and urinary tract. A team of doctors is closely monitoring her condition and she has been given antibiotics.”
Doctors said the admission was precautionary, allowing for a detailed investigation and round-the-clock monitoring due to fears of infection.
Sonia Gandhi respiratory complications linked to weather and pollution
On Wednesday, hospital chairman Dr Ajay Swaroop noted that respiratory factors also affected Sonia Gandhi’s condition. After evaluation, the doctors found that her bronchial asthma was slightly aggravated by the seasonal conditions in Delhi.

The exacerbation was attributed to a combination of cold weather and increased pollution levels — factors that have historically posed a risk to individuals with respiratory sensitivities.
Rahul Gandhi visits hospital and cancels trip to Kerala
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi visited a hospital in Delhi on Thursday morning and stayed by his mother’s side. The Congress leader also canceled a planned political visit to Kerala and instead decided to stay in Delhi.
Addressing a rally in Kozhikode virtually, he explained his absence:
“I would like to come here, but today I was forced to stay and couldn’t come. Yesterday my mother was hospitalized and I, as a son, was quite worried about her, so I decided to stay with her. I know the people of Kerala will understand. I was extremely worried about my mother’s health last night. All night I was comforted by only one nurse every hour who came to check on my mother.”
Medical history and recent hospitalizations of Sonia Gandhi
This is not the first time that Sonia Gandhi has required hospital care in recent months. In June of last year, she was admitted for stomach problems and followed up at the gastroenterology department of the same hospital. Earlier that month, she was also admitted to the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Shimla.
However, current admissions appear to be associated with a combination of infection and respiratory distress, requiring a more comprehensive evaluation.
Condition stable, monitoring continues for Sonia Gandhi
Hospital officials reiterated that Sonia Gandhi remains stable and under constant medical supervision.
