The curtains came down on the nine-day annual Sri Kodandarama Swamy Brahmotsavams here on Wednesday (March 25) led by ‘Chakra Snanam’.
The priests immersed the ‘Sudarsana Chakra’ idol, considered to represent the main deity, in the Kapila Theertham tank in the presence of a large number of devotees who also took a sacred dip in the water body at the same time.
Earlier, the idols of Rama, Sita and Lakshmana were taken on stretchers to the Kapila Theertham where ‘Snapana Tirumanjanam’ was performed before the chakra snanam.
The deities were taken from Alwar Theertham to PR Thota in a procession later and returned to the main temple via Theertha Katta Street, Kotakommala Street and Kotha Street, as per the ancient practice.
During the evening performance of ‘Dhwajavarohanam’, the priests symbolically unfurled the sacred flag raised on the first day, marking the end of the annual festival.
