Comedian Kunal Kamra slammed YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia aka beerBiceps for allegedly milking the ‘India’s Got Latent’ controversy. The criticism came after the YouTuber posted on X that he had lost several followers following a row sparked by his remarks on comedian Samaya Raina’s show last year.
Allahabadia wrote, “It took me and my team 10 years to build BeerBiceps and The Ranveer Show to where they were.”
“And in one incident, a large part was shaken.
He said now that his team needed advice on their next steps, he was reminded of poet Kabir’s couplet about resilience and determination.
“A simple reminder that growth takes time and so does rebuilding,” he added.
Responding to Allahabadia’s post, Kamra accused him of getting other comedians into trouble with his thoughtless remarks, calling him “contraceptive for creativity”.
He said more than 30 artists, including Kamra himself, have been summoned by the authorities to appear in the show.
“The entire comedy fraternity has taken a hit because you’re stupid. Shows cancelled, Venues pulled, Courts handed down, the pitiful shadow of your stupidity still makes life difficult for funny comedians. You didn’t even bother to understand that side,” Kamra wrote.
“Stop pretending to be a nice guy you’re not. Take a check, look down and be very ashamed. You’re the antidote to creativity, stop milking it and get back to what you do best, an obstacle to upward social change while FraudCasting & Clout chase,” he added.
India’s Got Latent Row
Comedian Samay Raina and YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia have been at the center of a major controversy after their remarks on an episode of India’s Got Latent. The row started after Allahbadia – who runs the popular YouTube channel BeerBiceps – made comments about parents and sex during the show. The episode also featured creators like Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh and Apoorva Mukhija, popularly known as ‘The Rebel Kid’.
Although the episode was later pulled, clips of the remarks were widely circulated online, sparking backlash and numerous complaints from various parts of the country. Many viewers called the comments offensive, sparking a wider debate about the limits of content on digital platforms.
The controversy quickly escalated beyond social media and reached parliament, where concerns were raised about the regulation of online content. Police cases were subsequently registered against several individuals associated with the show and all episodes were removed from the streaming platform.
