Meaning of Ram Navami
Chaitra Navaratri started on the first day of shukla pratipada and will end with Ram Nava. Celebrated with great pomp and enthusiasm across the country, this prominent festival commemorates the birth anniversary of Lord Rama, who is considered to be the seventh human incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It is believed that Lord Rama was born on Navami Tithi during the Shukla Paksha month of Chaitra. According to legends, Lord Rama was born to King Dashrath and Mata Kaushalya in Ajodhya as their eldest son.
In the Hindu month of Chaitra, this day falls on Navami tithi shukla paksha. Lord Rama is considered a symbol of morality, truth and justice. Lord Rama, also known as Maryada Purushottam Ram, is worshiped as the ideal human being who manifested in the Treta Yuga.
Ram Navami Rituals
Devotees of Lord Vishnu celebrate this sacred day by visiting the temple to worship Lord Rama. Many devotees observe this day by participating in the Ramacharitmanas trail at home or in temples. “Madhyahna, which prevails for six Ghatis (approximately 2 hours and 24 minutes), is the most auspicious time to perform Rama Navami Puja rituals. The middle of Madhyahna marks the moment when Sri Rama was born and the temples symbolize this moment as the moment of birth of Lord Rama,” says Drik Panchang.
One of the most widespread rituals is the Kanjak or Kanchika ritual, where families invite little girls to their homes and perform kanya pujan. Devotees wash their feet, offer food (halwa, puri, chane) and give gifts to seek divine blessings. Devotees also seek the blessings of Lord Rama by chanting various mantras.
