DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Tuesday (March 24, 2026) called for a special session of Parliament in early June to pass amendments to the Constitution of India with regard to delimitation, such as increasing seats, continuing the current share of states’ representation and guaranteeing that such representation would continue for another 30 years.
In a post on X, Mr. Stalin said that recent newspaper reports suggested that women’s representation in Parliament and Legislative Assemblies was being considered on the basis of the 2011 census. The move is not in line with the Constitution (128th Amendment) Bill, 2023 passed by the BJP government at the Center and its earlier stance of taking the initiative only after delimitation is done on the basis of the post-2026 census. said the Chief Minister.

“It is most likely aimed at securing electoral gains in the upcoming Assembly elections in four major states. To push through such an important step when the Model Code of Conduct is already in place is unprecedented,” Stalin pointed out.
“As DMK president and a proud inheritor of the Dravidian legacy that has spearheaded women’s empowerment for over a century, I fully support this initiative of women’s reservation without any preconditions while emphasizing our right to fair delimitation,” he said.
“Our consistent position is that the present proportional representation of states should not be disturbed under any circumstances. To achieve this, the delimitation and distribution of constituencies among states must include constitutional provisions ensuring the same for the next 30 years,” Mr Stalin said.
Given the current model code of conduct and the preoccupation of political parties, he demanded the convening of an extraordinary meeting of the parliament at the beginning of June, which would approve these constitutional changes to the delimitation.
