In view of the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday (March 24, 2026) said that the conduct and publication or publication of an exit poll through print or electronic media or dissemination by any other means, the result of any exit poll is prohibited between 7:00 AM on April 9 (start of UT/239 poll) and 5:00 PM. surveys in five states/UTs).

The above order was issued in accordance with the provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik said in a statement that polling for the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026 will be held on April 23 between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
She said that under the provisions of the above Act, for a period of 48 hours ending with the hours fixed for the closing of polls in the state, any electronic media shall be prohibited from displaying any election matter, including the results of any poll or any other poll.
