Property of businessman Mubeen Shah attached in Srinagar under UAPA

The special cell of the J&K Police, Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK), on Wednesday (July 1, 2026) seized the property of businessman and former president of the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Mubeen Shah in Srinagar under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

Officials said the CIK team has attached the property, including 12 marlas of land (0.075 acre). Mr. Shah served as the President of KCCI from 2006 to 2008 and also headed the trade body Cross-Line of Control. Officials said Mr Shah is currently living in Malaysia along with his family.

In 2020, the CIK registered a case under sections 153-A and 505 of the Indian Penal Code and section 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), “based on credible intelligence inputs revealing a well-organized conspiracy by ruthless anti-social and anti-national elements operating in breakaway external forces.”

Mr. Shah was among the Kashmiri businessmen who were arrested on August 4, 2019, a day before the Center decided to withdraw J&K’s special status. He was later released by the court in December and moved out of India.

According to the CIK, the accused were known for their ongoing hostile activities and remain highly active on social media platforms where they persist in spreading false, fabricated and provocative content with the intention of inciting widespread violence and destabilizing public order in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
