Two interstate ganja peddlers from Odisha were arrested at Secunderabad railway station on Monday, March 23, after police seized more than 10 kilograms of the contraband they were trying to transport to Delhi.
The accused have been identified as 26-year-old Dipak Sahu and 20-year-old Deepak Gouda, both residents of Odisha’s Ganjam district. They were apprehended during a joint operation by the Government Railway Police, EAGLE Team and the Railway Protection Corps on Monday.
According to the police, they were caught in the general waiting room around 10:00 a.m. while carrying backpacks containing ganja. After questioning, they confessed to carrying the contraband after which officials seized 10,089 kilograms of the substance worth ₹5,04,450 along with two mobile phones.
Investigators said the accused, who are friends from neighboring villages, had earlier transported ganja originating from Odisha’s Gajapati forest region to Delhi where it fetched higher prices. They reportedly procured the last shipment worth ₹35,000 from an unknown supplier on Sunday, March 22.
Police said the two traveled by Visakha Express and reached Secunderabad the next morning and planned to continue their journey to Delhi later that night. They went out for breakfast and returned to the waiting room where they were caught up in the inspection. Further investigations are underway to identify the source and wider network involved.
