Live Updates of PM Modi’s Parliament Address: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will speak in Parliament today about the ongoing conflict in West Asia. The speech is scheduled for 2:00 PM in the Lok Sabha during the ongoing budget session of Parliament.
Prime Minister Modi’s address to the lower house of parliament comes amid escalating tensions in West Asia that have disrupted critical maritime corridors and raised concerns about the safety of Indian citizens in the Gulf countries.
Prime Minister Modi is expected to outline India’s position on the evolving situation, including its diplomatic engagement, concerns about regional stability and the impact on global energy and trade routes, in his speech, first in the Lok Sabha during the ongoing budget session of Parliament.
The speech comes a day after Prime Minister Modi chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on Sunday to review the situation in the Middle East. During the meeting, the Prime Minister ordered the formation of a group of ministers and secretaries to work diligently to resolve the situation arising out of the West Asian conflict, news agency PTI reported.
On February 28, the US and Israel launched a joint strike against Iran that killed the Islamic Republic’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran retaliated against its oil-exporting Muslim nation in its neighborhood. The conflict has also affected the movement of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, a key channel that transports about a fifth of the world’s oil reserves, and disrupted trade.
Previously, the prime minister had spoken to leaders in the region, including representatives of Iran and other Arab countries, numerous times since the conflict began following the US-Israeli strikes on Iran on 28 February.
