Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are facing a new wave of criticism. It comes after a damaging report in Variety, one of Hollywood’s most influential entertainment publications.
The report raises serious questions about the couple’s status in Hollywood. It also questions their continued partnership with Netflix.
Royal commentator Kevin O’Sullivan and royal biographer Angela Levin discussed the fallout on TalkTV. O’Sullivan described the couple as “toxic” and “outcasts” in Hollywood.
“No one will work with them. Now they have no money; their Hollywood dream has ended in disaster. It’s turned into a nightmare, hasn’t it?” he was quoted by the Daily Express.
Levin agreed that things were not going according to plan for the couple. She suggested that Meghan had not reflected on her own role in her problems.
“The problem with her is that she never tries to look at herself…that’s what we all have to do. If things go wrong, we have to think, what did we do wrong? What are we?” Levin said.
“But Meghan thinks she’s perfect. She’s always the most amazing girl. She’s very smart, she’s very beautiful,” she added.
Levin also described an incident where she allegedly saw Meghan Markle on stage with a pregnant friend during a hug. She suggested that the duchess try to let others take the spotlight.
Variety report
Variety’s report contained several explosive claims. According to sources, Meghan considers Hollywood “her domain” and tends to coax or redirect Harry’s thoughts during conversations.
The couple’s attorney, Michael J. Kump, hit back at the claim. He called it a “misogynistic characterization” Meghan bosses her husband around. Prince Harry himself reportedly described the claim as “categorically false”.
Another claim in the report claimed that Meghan would disappear for long stretches during Zoom calls with Netflix teams. Her team reportedly later told Netflix employees that she was offended by something said during the meeting.
Meghan’s lawyer responded. According to him, the former duchess works from home and is the mother of two young children aged 4 and 6. She claims that her absence was only due to her children unexpectedly entering the room.
The couple are said to have contacted lawyers over the Variety piece, the Daily Express reports. Levin noted that certain wording in the article was quickly changed.
“It’s funny and it’s sad. But it’s so fast that the formulation has changed. It’s fascinating. They’re concerned because, as you say, she doesn’t have a lot of money. But she probably has enough money to sort people out, and she won’t,” she said.
