Operations at New York’s LaGuardia Airport have been suspended following a collision between an inbound Air Canada Express CRJ-900 and a ground vehicle on Runway 4. The Air Canada Express plane, operating from Montreal, reportedly struck a fire truck during landing, according to initial reports and flight tracking data from Flightradar24.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has confirmed that New York’s LaGuardia Airport has been closed and a ground stop has been issued after a plane collided with a fire truck.
The audio, along with preliminary visual reconstructions, suggest that air traffic control repeatedly instructed both the aircrew and the ground vehicle to stop moments before impact.
Unconfirmed reports, citing the New York City Fire Department, said that five Red Badge firefighters and more than 100 passengers were injured in the incident. Another ARFF heavy deployment continues at LaGuardia Airport.
Initial reports indicate multiple injuries, including several firefighters and passengers on board, with some listed as critical, though details remain sketchy.
The Federal Aviation Administration subsequently issued a ground stop for all flights at the airport as emergency services responded and an investigation into the circumstances of the incident began.
