The Keladi Shivappa Nayaka University of Agriculture and Horticulture Sciences, Shivamogga will organize a three-day national conference on ‘Floriculture and Landscaping @ 2047 Viksit Bharat’ at the College of Agriculture, Shivamogga on March 23.
The conference will be inaugurated by R. Girish, Secretary, Department of Horticulture. The function will be presided over by RC Jagadish, Vice-Chancellor of the University. The event will be attended by B. Hemla Naik, Director of Education of the university and other faculty heads.
Mr. Naik said in a press release that Karnataka is the hub of commercial flower cultivation with 30% of the total flower production in the country. Favorable climatic conditions, fertile soil and geographical diversity in the state support both traditional and modern flower cultivation on a commercial scale.
India is the second largest producer of flowers in the world after China. “In India, floriculture covers about 2.85 lakh hectares, producing about 21.52 lakh tonnes of loose flowers and 645 tonnes of cut flowers. India ranks 51st globally in flower exports and generates an income of about ₹ 455 crore from horticulture,” Mr Naik said.
The conference will be organized in collaboration with Indian Society of Ornamental Horticulture, New Delhi, ICAR-IARI, ICAR-Directorate of Floricultural Research; and University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot.
“This opportunity will serve as a platform to exchange ideas, share innovations and explore new technologies to strengthen the floriculture and landscaping industry in India,” he added.
