Iran has warned that the strategic Strait of Hormuz will be “completely closed” if the United States follows through on threats to target its power plants, escalating tensions in the Persian Gulf.
ANI reported that Khatam al-Anbiya central headquarters spokesman Ebrahim Zolfaghari said in a statement released by Press TV: “The Strait of Hormuz will be completely closed and will not be reopened until our destroyed power plants are restored.

“Closed only to the enemy” – for now
Zofaghari said the vital shipping lane remains under Iranian control but has not yet been completely closed.
“We have repeatedly said that the Strait of Hormuz is closed only to the enemy and to harmful traffic … harmless passage occurs under special regulations that ensure our security and interests,” he said.
“legitimate goals” of energy infrastructure
An Iranian official warned that retaliation would extend beyond the strait and target regional energy assets.
“All power plants, energy infrastructure and information technology (ICT) infrastructure of the Zionist regime will be broadly targeted,” Zolfaghari said.
He added that “the power plants of countries in the region that host US bases will be a legitimate target for us.”
Threat to US economic interests
Zolfaghari further escalated the rhetoric by warning of wider economic consequences.
“Everything is set for a major struggle aimed at the complete destruction of all American economic interests in the West Asian region,” he said.
He also claimed that companies in the region with American shareholders would be “completely destroyed”.
Despite the strong warnings, the spokesman insisted that Iran was not seeking conflict.
“We were not the initiators of the war … however, if the enemy damages our power plants, we will do whatever it takes to defend our country,” he said.
Trump’s 48-hour ultimatum
The warning follows a direct threat from Donald Trump, who said the US would attack Iran’s energy infrastructure if the strait was not reopened.
“If Iran does not FULLY open up… the United States… will strike and wipe out their various POWER PLANTS,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social, giving Tehran a 48-hour deadline.
The Strait of Hormuz, a critical bottleneck for global oil supplies, remains at the center of escalating tensions between the US and Iran, with any disruption likely to have far-reaching economic and geopolitical consequences.
