Although eligible citizens can apply for enrollment in the electoral roll till Monday (March 23), the last day for filing nominations for the April 9 assembly elections in Kerala, only those individuals who registered on or before March 15 will be able to vote this time.
The processes associated with handling the application and adding the name to the voter list take up to ten days. Therefore, only those applications filed on or before March 15 will be considered eligible for the upcoming parliamentary polls, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Rathan U. Kelkar said on Sunday.
The matter has caused some confusion as election officials had earlier said names could be added to the list up until the last day for filing nominations.
Mr. Kelkar said applications received after March 15 will be processed only after the election results are announced on May 4. New applications will also be accepted after the results are published.
Kerala has a little over 2.7 million voters in its electoral roll. The deadline for submitting candidate lists to councils ends on Monday at 3 p.m. An update from Mr. Kelkar’s office said that 341 candidates have filed a total of 607 sets of nomination papers so far.
In 2021, there were 957 candidates in the fray and a total of 2,180 nominations were filed across the state.
Till Sunday, 1,39,799 complaints of violation of the model code of conduct have been filed.

A total of 33,194 complaints were filed through the cVIGIL application. The cVIGIL application is a web-based platform developed by the Election Commission of India (EC) for quick response to complaints of electoral irregularities filed by the public.
On Sunday alone, 7,295 complaints were filed through the facility, according to the director general’s office.
