They will now look to complete a clean sweep in their final international engagement ahead of the Women’s T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to be held from June 12 to July 5.
Asked to bat first, Australia built their innings around a few quick contributions rather than one big individual score. Georgia Voll gave them an early lead with 39 off 23 balls, including six fours and a six, before Beth Mooney made 17 and Phoebe Litchfield added 35 off 29 to keep the innings moving.
Ellyse Perry then provided the key knock in the second half with a fluent 42 off 28 balls, hitting six boundaries, while Georgia Wareham chipped in with 11 off eight balls. Tahlia McGrath and Nicola Carey remained unbeaten at five and nine respectively as Australia finished at 164 for five.
The West Indies bowlers shared the wickets with Deandra Dottin, Jahzara Claxton, Hayley Matthews, Karishma Ramharack and Afy Fletcher taking one each.
MATTHEWS’ KNOCKING GOES TO BEGIN
West Indies stayed in the contest largely thanks to captain Hayley Matthews, who made 56 off 41 balls with seven fours and three sixes, adding important runs with Stafanie Taylor scoring 22 after Qiana Joseph was dismissed early.
But the Australian bowlers held firm at key moments. Leg-spinner Alana King removed both Matthews and Taylor to break the backbone of the chase and finished with two for 25 to earn the player of the match award. Georgia Wareham added to the pressure by dismissing Shemaine Campbell for six, while Kim Garth’s economical four overs for 20 not out helped raise the required rate.
Deandra Dottin battled to the end with an unbeaten 39 off 28 balls and Jahzara Claxton was not out for five but West Indies could not find the late acceleration they needed.
Australia completed a comprehensive victory to continue their run at the FIFA T20 World Cup on a stronger note after India ended their long run of domestic dominance in the format earlier this year.
