Jan Suraaj party founder Prashant Kishor claimed on Saturday (March 21, 2026) that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was stepping down as the BJP, which was in power at the Center and played a key role in securing a “manufactured mandate” for the NDA in the assemblies last year, was ready to “claim its share”.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event organized here on the occasion of Id, Mr. Kishor reiterated that Kumar, who heads the JD(U), is “physically and mentally unfit” to rule the state.
“I can’t say whether Nitish Kumar is leaving of his own free will or he is acting under pressure. But in a way I stand by the truth. I was pilloried before the parliamentary polls when I predicted that even if the NDA wins, he will not become the chief minister,” said Mr Kishor, who is a former JD(U) vice-president.
The 47-year-old also said, “My prediction that the NDA could lose may have been off the mark. But I was proved right about Nitish Kumar, who is visibly unfit, physically and mentally. Why else would the Chief Minister resign barely a few months after his coalition won a brute majority in the Assembly?”.
