Independents front field Shanavas Padhoor from Kasaragod, CP Musthafa from Vallikkunnu and Mohammad Sameer from Tanur
The Left Democratic Front (LDF) on Saturday announced actor Sudheer Karamana as its independent candidate in the Thiruvananthapuram constituency for the upcoming assembly elections. The front party also announced the candidature of Independents Shanavas Padhoor from Kasaragod, CP Musthafa from Vallikunna and Mohammad Sameer from Tanur.
Left winger Mr Karamana will face Communist Marxist Party (CMP) and United Democratic Front (UDF) leader CP John and BJP candidate Karamana Jayan. A decision on the LDF candidate in the Thiruvananthapuram constituency was awaited as the seat was allotted to ally Janadhipathya Kerala Congress (JKC). JKC leader and sitting MLA Antony Raju was disqualified after a magistrate court here convicted and sentenced him in an evidence tampering case. The JKC failed to field another candidate, prompting the LDF to field an actor.
Speaking to journalists, Mr Karamana said he would take the opportunity to work for the people. He said that as a local he knows every nook and cranny of Thiruvananthapuram as well as people’s feelings and problems.
“I see film and politics differently. I am a teacher and a film actor, which I see as part of social work. The ultimate goal is to live and work for society. I see this as an opportunity to enter public life,” he said.
The candidature of sitting LDF MLA and Minister V. Abdurahiman was shifted from Tanur to Tirur after which Mr. Sameer from Tanur was selected for the contest.
