ABHISHEK LIGHTS UP DURHAM
Abhishek produced another breathtaking T20I knock to rescue India after the early dismissals of Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan left the visitors hanging on at 6 for 2. Undeterred by the collapse, the left-hander launched a fearless counter-attack, picking up both pace and spin with remarkable intent.
He got off the mark with a stunning drive through the covers against Luke Wood before shifting into gear against Liam Dawson to take another cover with a stunning six. Saqib Mahmood bore the brunt of Abhishek’s aggression as the opener hammered a drive for four and followed it up with back-to-back sixes over leg.
He continued his onslaught against Wood, hitting three boundaries in the fifth with sharp drives and inventive swing. Abhishek reached his fifty in just 20 balls, reaching the milestone with a single off Adil Rashid, before extending the bloodbath by running Will Jacks straight down the ground for another maximum.
His dazzling innings ended on 59 from just 24 balls, studded with six fours and four sixes. Sam Curran trapped him lbw with a clever back slower ball that pitched in and hit him in front. Although the on-field umpire initially dismissed the appeal, England were successfully reviewed as ball tracking showed that the delivery hit leg stump, ending Abhishek’s explosive knock.
